The Fulton Police Department Records Department is responsible for a number of services, only one of which is record management. If a copy of a police report is needed please see the instructions below.
A Few of the other duties of the Records Department:
Issuance of Handicap Parking Permits for Fulton City Residents
You can obtain the permit application at the police department or print it from the link below and submit the completed form to records. Records will issue the permit immediately.
Local Background Checks
At times prospective employers ask applicants to have their local police department do a local background check for arrests. Often this check can be completed while you wait.
Parking Ticket Management
Records takes payment for your local parking ticket. Cash or check only.
Get a Copy of an Accident Report
If you need a copy of an accident report that has been reported to Fulton Police and it met the criteria to complete a DMV accident report (MV104-A) you can call the records department ahead of time at 598-4504 to make sure it has been approved to be released. If it able to be released a copy can be picked up at the police department free of charge.
Keep in mind due to time constraints reports will not be available the day of the occurrence.
There is a charge for insurance companies to get a copy of the report, there is no charge for the involved person in the accident to get a copy.
Get a Copy of All Other Reports
To get any other type of police report you will need to complete a FOIL (Freedom of Information Law) with the City Clerk's Office which is across the hall from the police department in the Municipal Building. The FOIL paperwork is a one page report that asks basic information about which report you are requesting and why. After the FOIL is submitted the requested report will be reviewed by the Chief of Police or someone he designates to do so. It will be determined if the report can be released and if so which portions can be released. This process may take up to 10 days, so you will not receive the report the day you file the FOIL. There is a charge of $.25 per page of report you receive.
Parking Permit Application - A Downtown parking permit is required for local merchants and employees to park in certain City Parking Lots. Click on this link, print out, complete and bring to the Fulton Police Department. The Traffic Department Commander will review and issue a parking permit. Click here to see Downtown Parking Map.
Handicap Parking- Used by New York residents to apply for plates or a parking permit for people with severe disabilities. Requires a medical doctor's signature and certification. Plates are issued at state and county DMV offices, but permits are issued by local governments, not DMV. Filing a false application is a crime.

You may be able to obtain assistance for lost wages, medical expenses, counseling, funeral expenses, essential personal property, occupational rehabilitation, moving expenses or crime scene clean-up.
